Marianne Sung is a self-taught Korean-Canadian artist. Radiating warmth and light, her art is intended to evoke a sense of magic and nostalgia. Her paintings emerge by applying thin and transparent layers of acrylics and mixed media. She is primarily inspired by her deep connections to the places and things in her current home of Ontario, her upbringing in Québec and world travels. She also often incorporates neon hues to explore the intersection between the natural and digital realms, blending the real with the surreal. Her artwork explores themes of identity, interconnectedness and community.
Originally from Montréal, Marianne graduated McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce and subsequently earned her CPA designation. She now enjoys living and staying creative in Toronto.
